I’m so glad this is giffed. I was wondering whether a man would take his wife’s hand in public in the early 1860’s Japan. Maybe I just falsely imagine 1868 to be the cutoff for uptightness. But yes, it was a sweet gesture. To see Kakuma clap and dance was kind of funny too.
